In short

The same conclusion as CBGB, reached independently and delivered as provocation rather than art.

The scene

Where New York's scene grew out of art school and the Velvet Underground, London's arrived as confrontation, with management that understood publicity as a medium. The Sex Pistols supplied the provocation and The Clash supplied the politics. It burned out quickly and productively: by 1979 most of the important bands had either dissolved or moved on into post-punk, which is where the ideas went.
